Wow. This guy looks young.
I started Hippies Hope Shop a year ago, I was 19 years old. To be dead honest I was pretty ridiculously ignorant. The amount i've grown over the last year is pretty baffling but still looking at this picture I took yesterday I can't get over how young I look. What we've accomplished in a year is pretty amazing, it's odd to think that at 20 years old we've built up this little shop to have over 200,000 followers between our two Facebook pages The Hippy Bloggers & Hippies Hope Shop.
We've fed over 3,000 people too. I'll be the first one to say that we are definitely a for profit organization & the amount that gets donated is only about 1-5% of the total sale, but it's pretty cool to think that we've created this awesome little store that has a really amazing positive externality.
I'm really not a hippie in the traditional sense of the word. I don't grow my hair out, I don't wear tie dye, and I was born in 1993 not the 60's, but I think me & this store aren't supposed to represent any of that (at least for the most part). It wasn't just hippie culture that I fell in love with but the ideals that it stood for. To live your life without regard of what the world thinks about you, that we don't have to be negative to each other all the time, that a little positivity goes a long ways. I think that we should all strive to make the world a little bit of a better place & while I definitely don't mind a little grass, that it's amazing how we can be so blissfully high on life.
This store isn't made for the culture 60 years ago but for the evolution of what it means to be a hippie in the 21st century. That peace, love, & barefeet aren't just a dying concept but something that has a solid place in the 21st century.
To all the friends i've made along the way I just wanted to say thank you for your help in getting us to this point. It has been an amazing journey that has just started & I look forward to the next 10+ years of building & working with this awesome community. You are all amazing people, inside and out.
